Nurture your child's imaginative side by making an illustrated book using free clip art from The Clip Art Site. You can inspire the creative genius in your child. Make the writing book a part of your home school lesson plan or just as a fun, rainy day activity. Making an illustrated book will let your children practice their creative writing skills.

Is your child interested in nature? Why not use free clip art of a dolphin to inspire a story about undersea life. Or how about using some clip art of famous buildings like St. Basil's Cathedral in Russia or the United States Capitol in Washington, DC to bring out the explorer in your child. How about a picture of a bicyclist to inspire the athlete in your child? If they're interested in American history, a picture of the Statue of Liberty will get them started.

It's easy to get started. Pick eight or 10 free clipart images, and print them so they take up about a quarter of a page apiece. Let your child write the story to go with the pictures. You will have to use either your photo editing software or a word processor like Microsoft Word. Just select the images you want to use in your book from The Clip Art Site. There are thousands of possibilities. Create a document for each image or include several images on a page. Select the clip art you want to use and download it to your hard drive. If you need help saving the files, see our Instructions to Save Images.

When they're done, staple the pages together to make a book. And your sister's kid is just going to send a single stick figure drawing to Grandma. Ha!
