Over 70 miles of barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina, the Cape Hatteras National Seashore provides unlimited opportunities for recreation, cultural events or just enjoying the natural beauty. Old-time sailors used to call this area the ‘Graveyard of the Atlantic’ due to the strong currents, treacherous shoals and storms. There are lots of history of shipwrecks, lighthouses and beaches and the United States Lifesaving Service is headquartered here.
